Creativity-Ability, founded by Brian Kavanaugh, draws on his more than twenty-five years of supporting the creative practices of adults with developmental disabilities, spanning facilitation, studio and program development and leadership, research, and education.

C-A is focused on creative development and its facilitation: How do creative practices develop over time?

How can facilitation encourage discovery without determining its outcome? What kind of knowledge is generated through sustained creative practice?

Through writing, research, and ongoing exchange with studios and practitioners, Creativity-Ability examines the conditions that allow artistic practices to develop - and the roles that facilitators, materials, relationships, and studio environments play in that development. This includes considering the studio not only as a place where knowledge is exchanged, but where new knowledge is made.

Creativity-Ability is an independent project of Brian Kavanaugh, an artist, educator, Fulbright Scholar, and longtime practitioner in progressive art studios.

 

Kavanaugh holds an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from SUNY Purchase College.
